Serengeti Migration Safari in the Masai Mara

Serengeti Migration Safari in the Masai Mara

$7295 per person

Each year in August, almost two million unfenced and untamed large animals leave the parched plains of Northern Tanzania and ford the crocodile infested Mara River into the Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya for its life sustaining water and grasslands.

September 6th – September 15th, 2022
The Mara is the northern part of East Africa’s Serengeti Plain and is home to the greatest variety of resident, big game wildlife of any of Africa’s parks. We will stay for four nights at the award winning Mara Serena Lodge, a great favorite of those who have stayed with me here over the past 15 years. The trip is timed to coincide with the most fascinating time of the migration as the herds cross the Mara River. See photos below. The Serena Game Lodge is set right in the center of the traditional migration routes and crossings of the Mara River can be seen right from your lodge room.

Day 1
Samburu & Shaba Game Reserve: After breakfast we will depart on a short flight that will take us to the Samburu Game Reserve where we will spend three nights. We will arrive in time for a short morning game drive in the park followed by lunch. The park also is home to hundreds of bird species. It is set in a beautiful desert area surrounding two rivers which provide water year round for the wildlife and cause them to concentrate in the park. It is named after the Samburu tribe which still lives in the area. They are related to the Masai and speak the Maa language. We will have a chance to meet them and may visit their villages.
